Bicycle Safety on Campus

Bicycling is fun, healthy, and a great way to get around campus, and for many students the bicycle also represents an environmentally safe form of transportation. It is important to remember some basic basic safety tips when you ride. Click Here for more important information on bicycle safety.

Notice

Parking permit rates for 2009-2010 have been adjusted to support the operating costs of parking and transportation services on the UAHuntsville campus. These fees are essential to fund costs associated with parking such as parking lot resurfacing, improved lighting, road repairs, and signage.

Vehicle registration fees have been increased only once since 1990. As a result, the fees do not cover all costs associated with parking. This increase will eliminate the need for university funds to supplement parking and will provide the university better positioning for replacement costs and improvements to the parking infrastructure in future years.

Beginning this fall, vehicle registration will be priced at $120. Summer decals are $40, and the cost of registering a second vehicle will be $60 ($20 for summer). The summer decal rate is for new employees or students who start after May 24th of an academic year. The exemption for UAH license plates ends August 31, 2009. Fines will increase to $50 for parking violations, $75 for moving violations, and $100 for handicapped parking violations. Employees will have several payment options, including payroll deductions from up to 26 paychecks.

"The dedication of these additional parking fees for campus transportation will allow for consistency in how we invest in the campus infrastructure and how we recover all of the costs associated with parking operations," said Police Chief Chuck Gailes. "We understand the impact of increasing these fees on our employees and students; however, it’s crucial that we strive to provide these essential services to our campus."
